North Cobb Regional Library enchants this Halloween season with its feature event, Practical Magic at the Library. An evening of themed crafts, book and movie trivia, and photo opts—to which costumes are encouraged—this event celebrates the works of Alice Hoffman, and its charm takes effect on Monday, October 12th at 5 PM.
Sealing the magic of the library in October are DIY Tealight Ghosts and Spooky DIY Night. As both are teen-events, the former will bestow participants with two tealight covers: one premade (by librarians) which they will decorate and the other which they will create from scratch; each of their tealight covers will be made for battery powered tealights that can be added at home to complete both creations. The latter event will be a chill, lo-fi-esque hangout session complete with eerie tunes, creepy crafts, and snacks. DIY Tealight Ghosts is on Wednesday, October 7th at 6 PM; and Spooky DIY Night is on Wednesday, October 28th at 4 PM, to which a costume or spooky attire is encouraged.
Cast within these two events are the Felt Pumpkins crafting event, Thursday, October 8th at 4:30 PM; the library’s Middle Makers: Mummy Votive Holders program, which allows tweens (11-15) to make spooky candle holders for LED tealights, on Tuesday, October 27th at 5 PM; a more somber event with a Marietta City Cemetery Lecture on Wednesday, October 21st at 6 PM; and the enduring fun of Halloween BINGO on Thursday, October 29th at 4:30 PM.
Added to this is North Cobb Regional Library sprinkle of carnival dust, in the form of Water Bottle Rockets. Launch day for the STEM event is Thursday, October 22nd at 6 PM.
If the library were to harness its magic and manifest a spirit to represent the Halloween season, then its presentation of the Pumpkin King is an excellent exhibition of its mysticism, with its “Drive-In” Movie Night [featuring]The Nightmare Before Christmas. A classic and visually beautiful stop-motion film, the macabre style of its story parodies corrupt authority and the fallout of whimsical change (or what some could refer to as horrible executive decisions). The Pumpkin King will be at North Cobb Regional Library on Monday, October 26th at 4 PM.
