PARTIES BOOKEND OCTOBER AT WEST COBB REGIONAL LIBRARY
It is uncertain how many notice the shift after the Autumn Equinox, when cooling temps in late September drop to a chill on the last day of October. Every Halloween. Perhaps it is this shift that sends thoughts to pumpkin spice, the fall season, and the 31st before October does roll around. West Cobb Regional Library has picked up on the shift and scheduled a couple of parties to celebrate both the seasonal change at the beginning of October and the holiday at its end.
On Friday, October 2nd, the Crow Party welcomes the general Cobb community of older children, teens, and adults for an all-black event of trade, creativity, and more. Where participants will wear all black, the colors of small trinkets (e.g. charms, plastic gems, mini bottles, cool rocks) will stand out and become the focus of trade. Collected trifles can be stored in altoid-sized tins attendees will decorate during the event. In addition, to complete their all-black outfits, attendees will also create a masquerade-style black mask. As the Crow Party is a celebration, symbolic of overwintering nature’s hibernation in a communal roost, there will be more to it. Party starts at 6 PM.
The day before, on Thursday, October 1st at 4 PM, children 4 to 8 years old will make at least two trinkets during Thursday Explorers: Clever Crows! One trinket they’ll keep and the other they’ll trade at the Crow Party.
Another related Thursday Explorers program worth mentioning at this juncture is Make a Spiral Pop-up Pumpkin Card, occurring on Thursday, October 8th at 4PM.
On Thursday, October 29th, the Halloween Party! promises to be a spooktacular event for toddlers and preschoolers. In addition to crafts and treats, there will be a photo both and a parade through the library, for littluns to show off—if in costume. While this party begins at 10 AM, the parade begins at 10:30 AM.
