SWITZER’S OCTOBER SCHEDULE IS A CANDY BAG OF EVENTS
Trick-or-treat, Charles D. Switzer Library has plenty to consume this October, but it’s not all candy. With handfuls of fun, educational, and helpful events this month, the sweetest of the library’s schedule are those celebrating All Hallow’s Eve.
Beginning Thursday, October 1st at 10 AM, and ending early Halloween evening, from the Switzer Library Teen Room to the stacks and library shadows, clues and discoveries shall be where it’s at with Teen Spooky Scavenger Hunt.
Following on Monday, October 5th at 6 PM, the first, mild piece from The Georgia Room, Cursed Georgia will explore the state’s legendary superstitions—no salt required.
From then on, it’s Creepy Crafts on Monday, October 12th at 2 PM; the first apparition of the local movie club, Scary-etta Film Society, discussing The Blair Witch Project occurs Wednesday, October 14th at 6 PM; with their second appearance on Tuesday, October 20th, also at 6PM, hosting horror movie trivia night.
Of course, if a trivia night of classic chills, modern scares, iconic villains, and cult favorites is too intense, then there’s the lightness of crafting with The Georgia Room’s Cluck-or-Treat Cross Stitch, Wednesday, October 21st at 5:30 PM. Their heavier offering will be available on Monday, October 26th at 6 PM, with Genealogy Beyond the Grave, an exploration of familial cemetery and death records that will uncover some of the best stories found from the grave. Lastly, littluns attending the Spooky Shindig on Wednesday, October 28th will participate in a trick-or-treat parade throughout the library, after a spooky story time at 10:30 AM.
Mixed in with this event bunch and more, a rarity that’s rather a special treat of Switzer’s October schedule. While separated by six degrees from Halloween through cosplay, the VOTE: For Your Favorite Manga Series is like a packet of Fiz Wiz amid chocolates. Geared toward tweens and teens and teaching them the value of civic duty and participation, the election of a favorite character or story will likely become a memorable experience. Early voting begins Monday, October 12 at 10 AM, the poll closes Tuesday, November 3rd at 6 PM.
