According to a press release from AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia is $2.70, which is six cents less than last week, two cents less compared to last month, and 34 cents more than a year ago. AAA’s gas price calculator puts the Cobb gas price average today at $2.743, just slightly more than the statewide average.

The press release reports, “Gas prices are being pushed lower due to seasonal demand, winter-blend fuel, and falling crude prices. As motorists settle into the fall driving season, which will likely decrease demand for cheaper-to-produce winter blend gasoline, pump prices will likely continue to decline into next week.”

Garrett Townsend, Georgia Public Affairs Director, AAA – The Auto Club Group, said in the press release, “Motorists are enjoying a discount at the pump. Gas prices have been pushed lower by oil prices and gasoline supplies. Current market fundaments show that drivers could see another 10-15 cent drop in the price of gas over the next few weeks.”

On average, Georgia motorists spend $41 for a full tank of gasoline – $5 more than this time last year.

The most expensive gas price averages in Georgia were in Athens ($2.74), Atlanta ($2.74), and Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($2.72).

The least expensive averages for Georgia were in Augusta-Aiken ($2.60), Columbus ($2.61), and Warner Robbins ($2.62).

Prices are likely to continue to decline temporarily, according to AAA, but might rise again when the U.S.-imposed sanctions on Iranian exports go into effect this November, which will tighten supplies.

AAA explains it’s methodology for collecting data on gasoline prices at the pump as follows:

AAA updates fuel price averages daily at www.GasPrices.AAA.com. Every day up to 130,000 stations are surveyed based on credit card swipes and direct feeds in cooperation with the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) and Wright Express for unmatched statistical reliability. All average retail prices in this report are for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline.
