About Marietta PAL

On its website, Marietta PAL, a member of the National Association of Police Athletic/Activities Leagues, describes its mission as follows:

An active member of National PAL, Marietta PAL’s MISSION is to prevent juvenile crime and violence by providing civic, athletic, recreational, and educational opportunities which create trust and build understanding between officers and youth.

Marietta PAL was created in 2007 using funds from the U.S. Department of Justice Weed and Seed program.  The City of Marietta created the Franklin Road Weed and Seed Project with those funds, and Marietta PAL’s initial funding came from that city initiative.

The organization’s programs have included soccer, basketball, swimming, dance, martial arts, tutoring programs, track and field, and a cheerleading program at the Marietta Sixth Grade Academy.

In 2014, the Marietta City Council granted Marietta PAL full access to the Lawrence Street Recreation Center.
