Recount in Georgia house race ordered with Cobb Democrat ahead by 173 votes

A recount will be conducted for the race in Georgia House District 37, a Marietta-area district.

Democratic challenger Mary Frances Williams is ahead of Republican incumbent Sam Teasley by 173 votes.

The following statement was issued by Cobb County Board of Elections and Registrations Director Janine Eveler:

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 21-2-495(c), a recount for the Georgia House District 37 race has been requested by Sam Teasley and will be conducted on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Each candidate may be present in person or by representative at such recount.  The recount will be conducted at the Elections and Registration Office located at 736 Whitlock Ave., Marietta, GA 30064. 

The certified election results have Williams at 11,928 to Teasley’s 11,755.

According to a news release from the Cobb County communications office Eveler expects the results to be certified by noon on Friday November 16.
