If you’re looking for a nearby fun fall celebration,  Whittier Mill Village is holding its annual Parktoberfest celebration on Saturday, Oct. 17 starting at 3 PM.

Admission is $25 with a beer-band (an armband allowing you to drink the featured craft beers), $10 without a beer-band, and $5 for children 5-12 years of age.

Whittier Mill Village was created in 1896, during the wave of textile mill construction that swept the south after the International Cotton Exposition of 1881. The mill was part of a chain operated by the Whittier family of Lowell Massachusetts. The houses in Whittier Mill Village were originally rental property for mill employees, owned and administered by the mill.

The textile mill closed in 1971, but it left behind a compact, walkable neighborhood.  The centerpiece of the community is a city park that incorporates the remnants of the old brick buildings. The proceeds from Parktoberfest go toward the maintenance of Whittier Mill Park. Tickets can be purchased at WhittierMillVillage.com

The bands booked for this year’s event are Whiskey Shivers, Guthrie Brown & the Family Tree, and Old Salt Union.

Here’s a sneak preview, courtesy of youtube, of the bands you’ll be hearing at Parktoberfest:
