A Cobb County police officer helped to save a newborn after a recent roadside delivery.
The department says Officer William Desaussure was doing an unrelated traffic stop Feb.12 when he was approached by a driver urgently requesting help. The driver said his wife was in active labor and that they weren’t going to make it to the hospital.

Officer Desaussure ran to the couple’s car and found that the mother had delivered the baby moments before, but that the infant wasn’t breathing.
The officer performed chest compressions and after several of them, the little one began taking breaths.
Cobb Fire and Emergency Services responded to the scene and transported both to the hospital for further care. Police say both mother and child have since been released and are doing well.
Department officials say Desaussure was in the right place at the right time, and that his quick response helped the baby enter the world safely.
