About the Cumberland area of Cobb County

The Cumberland area is one of Cobb County’s largest business, entertainment and commercial districts. Located near the Interstate 75 and Interstate 285 interchange, the area includes major office developments, hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and residential communities. Cumberland Mall, which opened in 1973, helped establish the district as a regional destination.

The area is also home to Truist Park, where the Atlanta Braves play, and The Battery Atlanta, a mixed-use development featuring restaurants, shops, offices, apartments and entertainment venues. Other prominent destinations include the Cobb Galleria Centre, Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre and the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

Much of the district’s infrastructure and economic development activity is supported by the Cumberland Community Improvement District. The CID is a self-taxing district in which participating commercial property owners pay additional property taxes to fund transportation, public-space and other improvements. Although Cumberland is not an incorporated city, it functions as a major employment and activity center within Cobb County and the broader Atlanta metropolitan area.
