Marietta to hold public hearings on city budget this Wednesday

If you want to have input into the upcoming Marietta budget, here’s your chance.  The City of Marietta will hold two hearings, both on Wednesday, June 7,  regarding the budget for the fiscal year 2018, which begins July 1, 2017.  The meetings will be held at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., at Marietta City Hall, 205 Lawrence Street.

According to a May 31 press release announcing the hearings, Marietta’s general fund budget provides the money for services including, “police and fire services, parks and recreation programs, code enforcement, planning and development, and streets and public works maintenance.”

The press release further states:

The City’s millage rate that supports governmental services is currently 2.788 mills and is expected to remain the same.

The City’s overall FY 2018 budget is $322 million, which includes the $56.69 million for the general fund budget.

Citizens are invited to attend the public hearing. City staff will present a brief overview of the budget, and citizens may comment and ask questions at that time.  The Marietta City Council will consider the budget for approval at its regular scheduled meeting on June 14, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the Council Chamber.
