An open house will be held this evening on the replacement of an aging water main in South Cobb. The work is estimated to extend from this summer until mid-to-late 2021, and will result in lane closures.

Here is the complete announcement, with time and location, from an email from District 4 Commissioner Lisa Cupid:

You are encouraged to attend an open house 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, about the major water main replacement project starting this summer along Cardell Road and South Gordon Road. This is a Cobb-Marietta Water Authority project and the contractor Freese and Nichols is hosting the open house. The meeting will be held at South Cobb Recreation Center, 875 Riverside Parkway, Austell.

The project will replace about four miles of a 36-inch water main along Cardell Road and South Gordon Road, between Mableton Parkway and Old Alabama Road. The original water main was installed in the 1960s and has reached the end of its service life. In order to maintain reliable service to the area, the water main needs to be replaced. Construction will begin this summer and completion is expected in mid-to-late 2021. The construction will require lane and road closures at various times. The closures will be coordinated with the Cobb County Department of Transportation.
