Lewis Wheaton will serve for four years on the Smyrna city council after edging out his opponent, David Monroe, in Tuesday night’s elections.
Wheaton took in 686 votes, good for 56.98 percent, to Monroe’s 518 votes (43.02 percent). He’ll take the Ward 7 seat previously held by Ron Fennel, who decided not to seek re-election.
During the campaign, Wheaton emphasized his support for local schools, pledged not to supporter too much density and said he hopes to lure more retail inside the city limits.
He’ll take office New Year’s Day and serve through the end of 2023.
