Work continues on Powder Spring Road/SR 360 with daytime lane closures this Saturday

roadwork equipment in article about lane closed SR 360

The lane-widening work on Powder Springs Road/SR 360 will continue this Saturday, October 30 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. And since the completion date for the project isn’t until 2023, we can expect a lot more of it.

According to the press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation, “These activities are related to the project to widen SR 360/Powder Springs Road from New Macland Road to SR 120/Charles Hardy Parkway in Cobb and Paulding counties, approximately 6.2 miles.”

The press release continues:

Weather and on-site conditions permitting, crews will close a single lane on Powder Springs Road between Lost Mountain Road and SR 120 on Saturday, October 30 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. This closure will help ensure safety for drivers and workers as they bring construction equipment into the area.  Roadway message boards and traffic flaggers will assist in guiding drivers through the closures.

The project will widen SR 360 to two lanes in each direction, add a median and sidewalks in each direction. The estimated $88.2 million project is scheduled for completion in November 2023.

The GDOT recommends the following safety precautions for drivers approaching the work zone:

As always, motorists traveling in the area are reminded to reduce their speeds in the work zone. Motorists are also encouraged to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan their routes before getting on the road by calling 511 for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.

  1. Regarding the Transportation article about daytime lane closures on SR 360/Powder Springs Road, it should read Macland Road and not Powder Springs Road. Is there a reason it doesn’t.

    • GDOT reports get confusing because sometimes the boundaries they describe cover more distance than the work they intend to perform. My guess is the reason they described it this way is that they began work on the part of SR 360 where it is Powder Springs Road Marietta, at the intersection with the loop. Since Old Lost Mountain Road at Macland Road is a long distance from SR 360 and the loop, I think they’re using the same template for all the work.

If that’s the case, it isn’t really inaccurate, it just creates confusion. I’ll phone them Monday and ask.
