According to a public information release from Officer Chuck McPhilamy of the Marietta Police Department, the department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a serious injury collision that happened Monday morning, December 12, 2022, at around 6 a.m. on Whitlock Avenue near Winn Street.

Investigators determined that a 24-year-old Smyrna woman was driving her Nissan Altima westbound on Whitlock Avenue. A 32-year-old woman was driving her Toyota Sienna Eastbound on Whitlock Avenue with two juvenile unrestrained passengers.
The public information release described what happened next as follows:
“For reasons unknown, one or both of the vehicles departed their lane, and the two vehicles collided head-on with each other.
“During the collision, one of the juveniles remained inside the Sienna, and one was ejected.
“All involved parties were taken to Wellstar Kennestone hospital for treatment. Both drivers sustained serious injuries.”
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Investigator N. St. Onge at 770-794-5352.
