The Marietta History Center will host an evening lecture by historian Alan R. McClarnand on Tuesday, May 16th at 6 p.m. entitled “Catch the Blind Tiger and Drag Him to Court.”
McClarnand will discuss his research on the Prohibition-era “blind tigers,” or illegal whisky operations, in the period from 1880 to 1920.
Blind tigers, also called “blind pigs,” were named for the practice of alerting customers to the availability of whisky by setting up an animal display or exhibit.
His lecture will explore the connection between Prohibition and race relations during the Jim Crow era in Marietta, Georgia.
The Marietta History Center is located at 1 Depot Street, Marietta, GA 30060.
