Flood watch remains in effect in Cobb County this evening through Friday

The flood watch issued for Cobb County and the surrounding region by the National Weather Service will remain in effect from Wednesday evening, January 24, through Friday evening, January 26. The rains are likely to continue through next weekend.

What is in the Flood Watch statement?

The following text is from the flood watch alert:

…FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY

EVENING…

* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be

  possible.

* WHERE…Portions of north central, northeast, and northwest

  Georgia, including the following areas, in north central Georgia,

  Cherokee, Cobb, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer,

  Gwinnett, Hall, Lumpkin, North Fulton, Pickens, South Fulton and

  Union. In northeast Georgia, Banks, Towns and White. In northwest

  Georgia, Bartow, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon,

  Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Polk, Walker and Whitfield.

* WHEN…From this evening through Friday evening.

* IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,

  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…

  – Several waves of showers and thunderstorms will impact much

    of north and central Georgia through the weekend. Total

    rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches will be likely. Locally

    higher rainfall amounts are possible in thunderstorms and

    where storms repeatedly move.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood

Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared

to take action should flooding develop.
