At the August 14 meeting of the Marietta City Council, Councilman Grif Chalfant received the Elected Official of the Year Award for the State of Georgia from the Georgia Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA).
According to the news release on the Marietta website:
During his term on the City Council, Councilman Chalfant has led numerous Public Works projects serving as Chair on the City’s Public Works Committee for over 10 years. He has been instrumental in the Whitlock Avenue, Roswell Street, Fairground Street, and Powder Springs Street Streetscape Projects, and various sidewalk and pedestrian safety improvement initiatives. Additionally, he has engaged in efforts that have redeveloped areas of the city with improved housing and businesses. Councilman Chalfant has also worked to protect the environment and preserve Marietta’s historical architectural heritage.

The Elected Official of the Year Award from the Georgia Chapter of the APWA is presented to the elected official who best supports the programs and activities of Public Works in Georgia. Candidates for this award must demonstrate leadership in Public Works through legislative actions, personal guidance or support, advocacy, or active involvement in Public Works initiatives.
