The Marietta-based Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre will present three performances of “Dracula” on October 18-20 at the KSU Dance Theater at Kennesaw State University’s Marietta Campus, 860 Rossbacher Way, Marietta, GA 30060.
Based on Bram Stoker’s classic 1897 novel Dracula, the ballet is set to music by Philip Feeney.
The dates and times are Friday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m, Saturday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 20 at 2:00 p.m.
Tickets start at $32.50 and can be purchased at https://georgiametrodance.org
According to the announcement of the performances on the City of Marietta website:
Dracula will transport audiences to the land of Transylvania where dance and myth mix together in the legendary tale of Count Dracula and his three brides, the misfortunes of Jonathan Harker and fiancée Mina Murray, and the ultimate struggle between good and evil. GMDT’s production of Dracula will feature professional dancers performing alongside their highest-level company dancers.
“Dracula is a favorite for audiences and dancers alike,” said Ashleigh Whitworth, artistic director for GMDT. “For the dancers, they get to step into characters that are dark, twisted, and multi-layered. For the audience, they get to experience ballet through a spooky lens, much different than the sparkling magic of a more typical classical ballet like The Nutcracker. The amazing score by Philip Feeney grabs your heart and takes you on a journey all its own, and as a choreographer it is a dream to create movement to his music. GMDT’s Dracula is truly the perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit!”
