The Marietta-based Georgia Symphony Orchestra announced that it has been awarded a Fiscal Year 2027 General Operating Support Grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts, a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, providing funding to help sustain the nonprofit organization’s operations and expand access to arts programming across the region.
The orchestra is among 90 arts organizations in 25 Georgia counties selected to receive a share of $1.3 million in General Operating Support funding. The grants are designed to help nonprofit arts organizations cover eligible operating expenses, including rent, utilities, programming and marketing, allowing them to focus on serving their communities.
“Through high-quality arts and cultural events, Georgia’s nonprofit arts organizations foster economic vitality in their communities and provide opportunities for young people to grow and connect,” said Georgia Council for the Arts Director Tina Lilly. “These grant funds will relieve some of the burden of operating expenses, allowing the recipients to focus on their primary mission. We are grateful to the Georgia General Assembly for providing this support.”
According to the press release, the Georgia Council for the Arts received applications from organizations across the state, including performing arts centers, museums, galleries, amphitheaters and music festivals. General Operating Support Grants are available to assist arts organizations with a range of eligible operational expenses.
“The Georgia Council for the Arts’ support allows us to continue delivering high-quality orchestral performances while removing barriers that prevent people from participating in the arts,” said Suzanne Tucker, executive director of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra. “From inspiring performances and youth music education to sensory-friendly concerts and community outreach, this funding helps ensure that thousands of people across our region have meaningful opportunities to experience the power of live music. We are grateful for the Council’s continued investment in Georgia’s arts community.”
Funding for the grants is provided through appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Georgia Council for the Arts evaluates grant applications through peer review panels that follow National Endowment for the Arts standards. Panelists include council members, arts professionals and community members with experience and knowledge in the arts.
