NORTH COBB REGIONAL LIBRARY COASTS INTO FALL
One may not think it, but marbles will signify the coming of fall this September at North Cobb Regional Library. Yes, marbles. Among the oldest of toys in human history, going as far back as clay balls of ancient Egypt, and so named since medieval Europe with being rounded from marble stone. The history of marbles passes through the handmade era of 1800s Germany and into 1900s America, with the Industrial Revolution. This leads us today, where at North Cobb Regional Library, children (elementary age and tweens) will play with marbles in an entertaining but educational way. On Thursday, September 10th, using the library’s STEM kits, children will engineer their own Marble Roller Coasters.
In a way, this early evening program will be a microcosm of fun, to the likes of thrills from riding an actual coaster at, let’s say, the North Georgia State Fair. With the fair beginning after the autumn equinox on the 21st, the library’s marble event is a great precursor to fall festivities.
Of course, North Cobb Regional Library flags the coming season explicitly with its Book Buddies event, on Monday, September 14th at 5:00 PM. The theme for this tween book club gathering is Autumn Reads, which constitute books with a cozy, moody, and or mysterious ambiance set against the fall season.
