Lockheed Martin distributed the following news release highlighting its community service event commemorating the 9/11 attacks:
On September 11, 60 Lockheed Martin Marietta employees helped pack 565,380 meals for Atlanta families facing food insecurities, as part of a 9/11 Day of Service, while reflecting on the day, and its significance as an opportunity to serve others and remember those lost 25 years ago.
“Twenty-five years later, we still remember,” said Trish Pagan, Lockheed Martin vice president of Air Mobility and Maritime Missions and general manager of the Marietta site. “Today we honor the sacrifices, the lives lost, and the families forever changed, we also remember the extraordinary acts of courage performed by every day citizens, emergency responders, the military, and countless communities in response. Our lasting lesson we carry from September 11, 2001, is the strength we find when we join forces toward a common objective, and today is an example of that spirit.”
The 9/11 Day Meal Pack is a nationwide volunteer event held as part of the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. Lockheed Martin locations across the country participated in the event.
The food packed in Atlanta will be disturbed to those in need through the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Held at the College Football Hall of Fame, the event drew other corporations and industries from across Georgia and sparked a spirit of cooperation between the groups to help those in need.
“I loved it-to give my time back to a good cause,” said first-time volunteer Alexis Ragland, Lockheed Martin senior quality analyst. “I liked seeing all the other corporations, and packing [with] them.”
The Lockheed Martin Marietta site employs 5,600 Georgians on various national defense projects including production of the C-130J Super Hercules, the F-35 center wing and advance development programs known as Skunk Works®. Recently celebrating 75 years as a center of U.S. Manufacturing Excellence, the site boost a 4.5 billion economic impact to the state and employees routinely donate thousands of hours annually to the community and organizations that support military and veterans, education, and neighbors in need among others.
