WEST COBB REGIONAL LIBRARY CELEBRATES AUTUMN THROUGH ART WEEK
With its September schedule filled with staple programs, West Cobb Regional Library is celebrating Art Week with a couple of its regular events. The celebration is like the quiet before a storm of auspicious festivities, as Art Week is autumn’s contemporary art season. For Cobb County, it is celebrated with a handful of anticipated art festivals and community events, such as Marietta Art in the Park on September 5th and Powder Spring’s Art at the Springs Festival & 5K on September 12th. West Cobb Regional Library’s selected day of commemoration falls on September 17th.
On the 17th, a Thursday, Homeschool Curiosity & Creativity: Make Art with Your Name! leads the day at 11:00 AM. This program aims to inspire young artists to create works from their names, requiring them to hone their motor skills with the use of scissors and learning to care for tools. As much as art can get messy, especially for school age children (5-12 years old), the program will also allow them to come into their own with creating in a shared, collaborative space, maintaining their workspace, and taking responsibility with clean up at the program’s end.
Later in the day, Thursday Explorers: Bubble Art! begins at 4:00 PM. Designed for explorers four to eight years of age, this program will teach them how to formulate their own bubble solution and create colorful, one-of-kind masterpieces. Billed as an easy-to-learn, inexpensive, hands-on activity, Bubble Art shall foster the little Picasso in each child, instilling them with the ability to express their creativity and uniqueness.
Between these two September 17th events—occurring at the same time as the homeschool program, in fact—is another creative program that’s a regular at the library. The West Cobb Craft Club meets every Thursday at 11:00 AM. Open to all, this crafting program celebrates art throughout the year. All that’s needed is your project and a healthy dose of enthusiasm. And no worries if new to knitting or crocheting; help is available for beginners.
