MODEST TREE EMBODIES SEASONAL GRATITUDE AT SWITZER

Pushing further into the fall season, Charles D. Switzer Library’s Teen Thankful Thought Tree stands out in celebration of Thanksgiving, amid a packed November schedule, right up to a two-and-a-half-day break for the holiday. While most of the month’s events are staples of community service, Switzer invites youths to fill out the Tree with leaves that carry words of gratefulness, kindness, and community spirit.

The Tree, though, also presents an opportunity for youths to show appreciation for Switzer, for the library’s role in their lives and schooling, which they may have taken for granted with visiting it. There’s no doubt that Switzer has been helpful in their development or success or has facilitated a special moment in their lives. After all, as an academic hub for at least seven middle and high schools, Switzer is as dedicated to them as it is to adult members of the larger community; and by so being—with all its CCPLS branches—it has perhaps thanklessly supported the Cobb County and Marietta school systems in shading, shaping, and nourishing the roots of the larger community.

The Teen Thankful Thought Tree will be available in the Switzer Teen Room, from November 2nd to the 25th.

Some of Switzer’s anchor events for November include the following:

  • Sci-Fi Book Club, Tuesday, November 3rd at 6:30 PM

(Brother Brontëby Ferando A. Flores)

  • November Sensory Friendly Movie Monday, Monday, November 9th at 11:00 AM

(Onward)

  • Graphic Novel Book Club, Monday, November 16th at 6:00 PM

(Hello Sunshine by Keezy Young

The Jellyfish by Boum

Stitches: A Memoir by David Small)

  • Classics Book Club, Wednesday, November 18th at 1:00 PM

(The Home and the World by Rabindranath Tagore)

Switzer Library shall close on Wednesday, November 11th for Veteran’s Day and early on Wednesday, November 25th at 5 PM; it will remain closed for Thanksgiving until Saturday, November 28th, reopening at 10 AM.

Contact Switzer Library for event inquiries or review its November schedule.
