WEST COBB CRAFT EVENTS HONOR AND CELEBRATE HEROES AND HOLIDAYS
While it could be argued that service to community or country doesn’t require a uniform, a badge of authority, or the taking up a gun, West Cobb Regional Library will host Retired Army Colonel Carey Cole, who will answer on Monday, November 9th, What is Veteran’s Day?
Sponsored by the Andrew Houser chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Colonel Cole’s Veterans Day presentation will address homeschool families, which comes to the library at the time of year in which Americans should be grateful, especially for their veterans. With answering what Veteran’s Day is, the colonel will enlighten attendees as to what this national holiday means, what it means to serve in the military—which he considers a most honorable profession—and what service teaches the individual. It is to provide perspective, from a veteran on how to appreciate veterans, which (in the opinion of the author) makes this event exceptional because it goes beyond “thank you for your service”. This phrase has become a trite cliché today, and it waters down the service of those who have shown or exemplified the greatest devotion and belief in country and compatriots, at the risk of their lives, or as of late, their livelihoods.
After the presentation and some Q&A, the Veteran’s Day event shifts into craft-mode, with attendees creating patriotic bracelets of red, white, and blue beads. This craft celebrates not only America’s 250th but also signifies the wearer’s appreciation for veterans. What is Veteran’s Day? begins at 11 AM, with the holiday following two days later, on Wednesday, November 11th.
The next opportunity to exhibit gratitude and appreciation, for Thanksgiving, occurs on Monday, November 23rd, with Thanksgiving Break Craft. This event welcomes the greater community to drop in on West Cobb Regional Library, at 10:30 AM, for a morning of festive crafting. The library will provide all nature-inspired materials for the holiday creation of any kind of ornamentation or gift. For infants or preschoolers that may participate, caregivers should be in attendance to give assistance.

West Cobb Regional Library shall close on Wednesday, November 11th for Veteran’s Day and early on Wednesday, November 25th at 5 PM; it will remain closed for Thanksgiving until Saturday, November 28th, reopening at 10 AM.
