The Marietta History Center announced on the City of Marietta website that they will offer two guided walking tours this spring at the historic Marietta City Cemetery, highlighting the lives and legacies of some of the community’s early residents.
Led by Christa McCay, collections manager at the Marietta History Center, the tours will explore the cemetery’s history through themed presentations designed to connect visitors with Marietta’s past.
The first tour, “After the Revolution: Born in America,” is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The second tour, “Between Heaven & Earth: Marietta’s Early Ministers,” will take place Saturday, May 2, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Established in the 1830s, Marietta City Cemetery is one of the city’s historic landmarks and serves as a record of the community’s heritage. Organizers said each walking tour is centered on a specific subject to give participants a deeper understanding of the people and stories that shaped Marietta.
The tours will be held rain or shine. Because the routes include gravel and uneven pathways, attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
The cemetery is at 420 West Atlanta St., Marietta, GA 30064. Tickets are $15 each, or $7 for Marietta History Center members. Members must call or email cmccay@mariettaga.gov to receive a ticket purchase link.
Each tour is limited to 26 participants. Refunds will be issued only if the Marietta History Center cancels an event.
Tickets are available through the museum’s online store on the Marietta History Center website and through a link on its Facebook page.
The Marietta History Center’s mission is to ignite curiosity in Marietta’s history by connecting people through compelling stories and engaging experiences. For more information, call 770-794-5710.
