Georgia gas prices rise this week as summer travel and oil prices push state average to $3.57 per gallon

Georgia gas prices increased this week after several weeks of declines, with the statewide average climbing to $3.57 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, according to AAA. Higher crude oil prices, strong summer travel demand and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty are contributing to the modest increase at the pump across Georgia.

The latest AAA gas price report shows Georgia’s average price is 4 cents higher than last week but remains 21 cents lower than one month ago. Compared with the same time last year, however, Georgia drivers are paying 66 cents more per gallon. Filling a typical 15-gallon tank now costs approximately $53.55.

“While Georgia drivers are paying a bit more at the pump this week, the increase remains relatively modest,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Fluctuations in crude oil prices seasonal travel demand and conflict in the Middle East continue to influence fuel cost. Drivers should continue to expect routine price changes throughout the summer driving season.”

What about prices in Cobb County?

As of this morning, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Cobb County was $3.524, roughly five cents less than the statewide average.

What about EV charging rates?

EV charging rates were hovering around 42 cents per kilowatt hour at commercial DC fast charging stations, both nationally and in Georgia.

Home charging is much cheaper, particularly during overnight off-peak hours.  Check your local utility provider for rates.

Why are Georgia gas prices increasing?

AAA attributes this week’s increase in Georgia gas prices to higher crude oil costs and continued demand during the busy summer driving season. Ongoing uncertainty surrounding the conflict in the Middle East also continues to influence global energy markets, creating additional pressure on fuel prices.

While oil prices remain in the low $70-per-barrel range, analysts say geopolitical developments could continue to impact gasoline prices throughout the summer.

National gas prices also move higher

Across the United States, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline rose to $3.87 this week, an increase of 7 cents from last week. The national average had been steadily declining since late May before reversing course. Even with the recent increase, the national average remains well below the spring high of $4.56 per gallon recorded on May 21.
