TALES AND GAMES PRELUDE AND ANCHOR FALL AT MOUNTAIN VIEW
Mountain View Regional Library has scheduled a couple of programs in preparation for the seasonal change in September, with the autumn equinox occurring midweek of the 21st; and if there were ever an event to prepare children for fall’s coming, perhaps to even inspire their imagination of wooded tales or the excitement of campfires and smores, then the library’s Junior Wilderness Workshop: Tents, Tales, and Games would be that event.
Organized by Cub Scout Troop 1774, the wilderness workshop will prelude fall’s arrival at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, September 22nd—the 23rd at latest. Their presentation runs for an hour, and during this time, children in attendance (ages 6-12) will enter the world of scouting by inspecting an actual tent, listening to troop stories, and participating in engaging games and the construction of unique structures. The event promises complete immersion in the life of scout.
Securing the fall season at Mountain View Regional Library is its Mythology BINGO event. Hosted by Togas and Tales, a youth-led community initiative that teaches Greek and Roman myths to children, the event presents as part educational, part quasi trivia. Readings or stories will teach of gods, monsters, and legends, and BINGO will test or reinforce the newly learned knowledge of such. As a program ushering in fall at the library, children (ages 8-12) may learn of the Thesmophoria festival, which is a three-day, women-only celebration of Demeter, the goddess of harvest, and her daughter, Persephone, whose descent into the underworld and subsequent ascent from it is legendary and represents death and renewal—in an agricultural context.
