Georgia gas prices remain above $4 a gallon, leaving drivers paying substantially more at the pump than they did a year ago as elevated crude oil prices continue to put pressure on fuel costs.
The statewide average for regular unleaded gasoline stands at $4.09 per gallon, according to AAA. That is 8 cents higher than a week ago, 27 cents higher than a month ago and $1.18 higher than a year ago.
At the current average, filling a 15-gallon tank costs about $61.35.
Georgia’s average remains 40 cents below the state’s record high of $4.49 per gallon, set in June 2022.
“Georgia drivers are continuing to feel the strain of higher fuel costs, with pump prices holding above $4 a gallon, taking a significant bite out of household budgets,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Until market conditions improve, drivers should expect ongoing volatility and look for ways to stretch their fuel dollars, such as combining errands, reducing unnecessary trips, and using fuel-saving driving habits.”
What about Cobb County prices?
The average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded in Cobb County was $4.037 this morning, about five cents less than the statewide average.
What about EV charging rates?
EV charging rates were hovering around 42 cents per kilowatt hour at commercial DC fast charging stations nationally, with Georgia rates slightly less at around 40 cents.
Home charging is much cheaper, particularly during overnight off-peak hours. Check your local utility provider for rates.
National gas prices climb to $4.47 a gallon
Drivers across the country are also paying sharply higher prices. The national average for regular gasoline reached $4.47 per gallon, up 16 cents from a week ago and more than $1 from a year ago.
Crude oil prices averaging about $100 per barrel are continuing to push fuel costs higher, according to AAA. The national average is approaching this year’s high of $4.56 per gallon, reached May 21.
The national record is $5.01 per gallon, set June 14, 2022.
Atlanta gas prices average $4.07
In metro Atlanta, regular gasoline averages $4.07 per gallon.
Savannah has the highest metro-area average in Georgia at $4.17 per gallon, followed by Augusta-Aiken at $4.13 and Macon at $4.12.
Among the state’s least expensive metro markets are Valdosta at $4.01 per gallon, Warner Robins at $4.03 and Athens at $4.05.
