MOUNTAIN VIEW PUPPETRY EVENTS ENTERTAIN FOR HOLIDAYS
The week before Thanksgiving break, which for some might be a four or five-day holiday weekend or a planned, weeks-long vacation, Mountain View Regional Library will host a Puppetpalooza on November the 17th. The 10:30 AM magic, of course, will be in the form of puppets bringing to life classic and modern stories told through comedy and adventure. Intended for children of infant to preschool age, Puppetpalooza makes for an ideal antecedent to creating memories over the holiday(s), adding a share activity to the bonding over the year’s harvest.
For those wanting a similar experience with older, school-age children ahead of or during Thanksgiving, check out a Passport to Puppetry from Mountain View Regional Library. Serving as a branch of the Cobb County Public Library System, the library is a part of the larger Georgia Public Library System, which facilitates the passport through Mountain View. The passport offers free passes to the Center for Puppetry Arts, in Atlanta; however, only for certain events.
While the passport excludes special events and workshops, such as shows like Spookhouse Annie or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer—which are $22.00 a pop—it does grant access to three exhibitions: Jim Henson Collection, the Global Collection, and Frame by Frame: The Art of Stop-Motion Animation, which are all on display this November at the Center and are perhaps more the speed for tween and teens. The pass covers up to four people.
Obtainment of the Passport to Puppetry requires checking it out from Mountain View Regional library (or a CCPLS branch library) and then calling the ticket office (404-873-3391) to reserve a predetermined time to visit the exhibitions. As the exhibitions are regular events at the Center’s museum, reservation should cost nothing over the phone. However, the ticket agent will confirm that possession of the passport is in hand, which must be presented on arrival at the Center’s box office.
Spending time with loved ones and celebrating the spirit of Thanksgiving this November at or through library events is a chill way to do so. Other events scheduled at Mountain View Regional Library that may create shared experiences are:
- Dungeons and Dragons and Beyond, Tuesday, November 3rd at 5:00 PM
- Page Turners Book Group, Tuesday, November 10th at 10:30 AM [rescheduled date]
(Deacon King Kong by James McBride)
- Mountain View Mahjong Meetup, Wednesday, November 18th at 5:30 PM
- American Red Cross Blood Drive, Monday, November 23rd at 11:00 AM
Mountain View Regional Library shall close on Wednesday, November 11th for Veteran’s Day and early on Wednesday, November 25th at 5 PM; it will remain closed for Thanksgiving until Saturday, November 28th, reopening at 10 AM.
