Why should you contribute to the Cobb County Courier?

a drawing of a newspaper

Periodically (probably once or twice per week), I’m going to beg you folks for money. So I figure I might as well tell you why.

There are short-term and long-term reasons for my ask.

The short-term reason is that I’ve been livestreaming the public comments at the Cobb County school board meetings since the board decided that they and the district administration were embarrassed by those comments too much.

The sound quality on my live stream echoes and sometimes sounds like it’s run through reverb. So I want to spring for upgraded streaming equipment for around $500. I can literally pay for it now, but it would be at the expense of other things I’d also like the Courier to be doing.

The long-term reason is that I’m 74 years old, and if the Courier is going to survive in the long run, it’s going to need full-time staff beyond me.

That means having a business manager, a couple of assignment reporters, and an editor to keep things running when I can no longer do it. We also need a cash reserve that we can’t build with our current revenue stream. Every dollar that comes in right now goes straight to current expenses. That’s no way to create a sustainable business.

So please consider contributing to help us keep the local news we provide flowing and to increase the amount and depth of the news we provide.

We are not a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, so contributions are not tax-deductible. So the only reason to contribute is because you like what we’re doing, and want to see more of it. Just click on the “become a supporter” button below, then select the size and frequency of your contribution.
