Acworth’s brand new recreation and community center is now open and available for residents and visitors alike to partake in its many facilities and activities. City of Acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood and Cobb County Support Services Director Eddie Canon cut the ceremonial ribbon together beneath an overcast sky on Thursday, April 25.

The 44,000 square foot Community Center features numerous amenities for community and athletic activities, including two full-size basketball courts, an indoor raised walking track, a weightless exercise room, and classes from both live and virtual instructors. Funding for the $12 million facility came from the joint Special Local Options Sales Tax project with the Cobb County Government.

“This has been a partnership since the first SPLOST meeting,” said Canon. “Projects like this set an example for the accomplishments that we can make when we all work together for the greater good. There’s so much to do and learn in this facility, that I’m sure it will quickly become the hub of this community.”

The facility also features a 7,000 square foot Tanyard Creek Overlook banquet hall, which comfortably seats 350 guests and is intended for weddings, private receptions, conventions, and corporate events. A full in-house catering service is available for large events, as well as regular service from local options including Henry’s Louisiana Grill, Adriane’s Delectables, J.D.’s Bar-B-Que, BRIX on Main, Chick Fil A, and Fusco’s.

“Today is a game-changer for this community,” said James Albright, Director of Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resources. “This facility is a milestone of a growth for the community that I grew up in, and it’s our hope that the citizens of Acworth will enjoy it as much as we do.”
