The City of Marietta posted an announcement on its website that the city adopted a balanced budget along with a decrease of the city’s total millage rate from 4.992 mills to 4.817 mills.

MARIETTA – On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, the Marietta City Council voted to adopt a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2023, which begins July 1, 2022, and ends June 30, 2023. The budget, which was recommended by City Manager Bill Bruton and Finance staff, was passed with no service reductions and no tax or fee increases and included a property tax decrease.
City staffed recommended a reduction to the millage rate thus allowing homeowners within Marietta City limits to see a decrease on their property taxes for the fourth year in a row. Additionally, the City of Marietta has not raised property taxes in 19 years. The City also implemented a property assessment freeze in 2001 that ensures the appraised value of a homeowners’ residence does not increase as long as that resident maintains ownership of the property.
The City’s overall FY 2023 budget is $392 million, which includes $68.3 million for the general fund budget. The general fund budget funds general government services including police and fire services, parks and recreation programs, code enforcement, planning and development, and streets and public works maintenance.
The city’s total millage rate will decline from 4.992 mills to 4.817 mills. The City’s millage rate that supports the General Fund’s governmental services is currently 2.788 mills and has remained the same since 2003.
