According to AAA’s weekly report, gasoline prices in Georgia remained steady, with an average cost of $2.93 per gallon for regular unleaded.
“Despite another week of lackluster demand for gasoline, Georgia pump prices remain stagnant,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “But we might see Hurricane Sara start to stir things up, and that could nudge gas prices a notch higher. Some early predictions show she could be taking a trip towards Florida around mid-week, so let’s keep our eyes peeled for what that means for us.”

AAA’s weekly report stated the following about national gas and oil trends:
Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline decreased by 1 cent to $3.07 (subject to change overnight). The formation of Hurricane Sara in the Gulf of Mexico could delay or even temporarily reverse the decline in pump prices. According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand rose from 8.82 million barrels a day last week to 9.38. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks fell from 211.3 million barrels to 206.8, while gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10.3 million barrels daily.
What causes fluctuations in gasoline prices?
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the price of crude oil is the main factor affecting the price of gasoline.
“Strong and increasing demand for gasoline and other petroleum products in the United States and the rest of the world can place intense pressure on available supplies,” the EIA website states.
According to the EIA, other factors that can affect prices include” disruptions in crude oil supplies, refinery operations, or gasoline pipeline deliveries.”
There are also seasonal changes in demand that cause price fluctuations throughout the year.
