The press release describes the incident as follows:

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 6:20 p.m., Kennesaw PD officers were dispatched to 2629 Lone Oak Trail, Kennesaw, GA to conduct a welfare check. Upon arriving at the residence and meeting with the occupants, Kennesaw PD encountered a male occupant, identified as Robert Thrash, 31, in the basement with an object in his hands. Thrash failed to comply with officers’ commands. One officer fired his weapon, striking Thrash. Thrash was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
