According to a public information release from Officer Chuck McPhilamy of the Marietta Police Department, the department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) unit is investigating a serious injury collision that happened on April 30, 2023, at approximately 3:05 AM on I-75 northbound at Delk Road.
The accident resulted in two hospitalizations, one of them for life-threatening injuries.
Investigators report that a 23-year-old Kennesaw man was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla when he struck a 2015 Toyota Highlander driven by a 48-year-old Austell woman, with a 49-year-old female passenger.
The woman moved her vehicle from the travel lanes, but for reasons unknown to investigators the driver of the Corolla exited his vehicle while still in the travel lane.
The Corolla was struck by three other vehicles and its driver was also struck, resulting in life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.
The driver of one of the three vehicles which struck the Corolla sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Officer St. Onge at 770-794-5352.
