Morning’s light saturates and diffuses the wilting greenery outside my window. The sun rays, stretching across time, screen the flora into yellows, reds, and even caramel under the orange glow of now sunset. During the trees’ many pigments blurring into one, fluttering and rustling under the wind’s tickle, beams of sunlight at one moment or another warmed my face. With this the spurring of memories. The rustic scent of dying leaves clinging on to branches, and a year’s reflection.
That time of year has arrived for Mableton, as it has everywhere in the northern hemisphere. As the trees around South Cobb Regional Library (SCRL) are changing, its November schedule is suffused with number of events which speak to reflecting—or really, self-reflection. The event which stands out as most interesting in this regard is the Winter Card Making event, which begins later in the month, on November 22nd, and runs to the end of the year, on December 31st.
According to the description of this event, with the winter holidays approaching, the fall season would be a good time reflect and connect (or reconnect) with family, friends, or those people in our lives who supplement or enhance our existence. To let them know they are thought of and, by the gesture of expressing thoughts or feelings to card, are appreciated.
Sure, perusing and browsing for the perfect greeting card for words that come close to your sentiments in a gift store, or even the grocery store, may do the trick. However, speaking from experience and as writer, nothing makes a bigger impact than one’s own words in their own writing. If you’re going to be a card from a store, it should be blank. Of course, if you’re going to go in, why not go all in?
SCRL will supply materials for one to make a unique greeting card. If ideas are needed, then check out the history of greeting cards.
Other happenings of connection at SCRL are:
- Leaf Rose crafting, beginning November 1st and going all month (while supplies last);
- The leafing of the Fall Positivi-Tree, which continues from October throughout the month of November;
- Fall Wreath Workshop, November 17th, Friday at 1:00 PM;
- Gardener’s Night Out, November 20th, Monday at 6:30 PM.
Please also note that SCRL shall be closed for Veterans Day on November 11th. It’ll also close early for the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday, November 22, at 5:00 PM and remain closed until Saturday, November 25th.
As always, check that book out. Get your creativity on. Your brain will thank you.
