GBI’s Trent Hillsman promoted to Inspector

In a press release, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced that Trent Hillsman has been promoted to Inspector.

His new duties will include supervising and overseeing several Investigative Division units, including the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office, West Georgia Gang Task Force, Metro Gang Task Force, Special Operations Unit, Commercial Gambling Unit, and Investigative Computer Services.

“Inspector Trent Hillsman is an excellent leader and experienced agent,” said GBI Director Chris Hosey. “It is my honor to appoint him to this position, and I am confident that Inspector Hillsman will guide and support the work units he oversees well through his extensive experience and unwavering commitment.”

“Inspector Trent Hillsman has had a positive impact on every unit he has served in since beginning his career at the GBI in 2001,” stated Investigative Division Director Cynthia Adkins in the press release. “He has expertise in several critical areas, such as criminal street gangs, illegal drugs, bomb disposal, and special operations. His dedication to his peers and community are evident in his work. I know that he will serve the agency and the state well as a GBI Inspector.”

The press release contains the following biographical information about Hillsman:

Inspector Hillsman began his law enforcement career as a police officer with the University of Georgia Police Department in 1997. He was later hired by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy in 1999. Inspector Hillsman joined the GBI in 2001. Since then, he has served as a special agent in the GBI’s regional investigative offices in Douglas and Athens, and the GBI Special Operations Unit, and was eventually promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Special Operations Unit. He was then promoted to Special Agent in Charge of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office in 2019 where he served until his promotion to Inspector.

Inspector Hillsman graduated from Piedmont University with a bachelors of science degree in Sociology in 1999 and received a Master of Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University in 2020. Inspector Hillsman is a senior member of the GBI Bomb Disposal Unit, a team leader on the Special Enforcement Team, and a member of the GBI Peer Support Team.

Inspector Hillsman is a native of Madison County, GA.
