Lisa Cupid posts State of the District slides online

District 4 Commissioner Lisa Cupid made her State of the District presentation available online. The 56-page document is a summary of the presentation she gave at the Ron Anderson Recreation Center in Powder Springs on May 15. The  presentation is divided into these topics:

  • Overview of District
  • Economic Development
  • Community Development
  • Public Safety
  • Transportation
  • Water
  • Budget

Overview

Her overview section summarizes the demographics of District 4 and its close proximity to other locations such as the City of Atlanta and the airport. It also highlights the business climate, employment statistics, and recreational assets.

Economic Development

The section of economic development highlights some of the existing economic assets the district has and the opportunities for increasing its economic strength.

Community Development

This section begins with an overview of housing permits in the area and outlines the work of the South Cobb Redevelopment Authority and Keep Cobb Beautiful.

Public Safety

Cupid highlights the personnel changes at the top levels of the Cobb County Police Department, including the appointment of Chief Register, and the promotions at the precinct level.  The section outlines modified police training and the creation of the Community Affairs Unit.

Transportation

The transportation section of the slideshow mentions road improvements (Floyd Road Trailhead of the Silver Comet Trail, the rehab of the Covered Bridge, and work at Riverview Road, Hick and Concord roads, and pedestrian improvements).

It also lists projects related to CobbLinc. The majority of district 4 riders of CobbLinc use the service to get to work.

Water

The section on water outlines three things: the Sweetwater Creek Army Corp of Engineers study that is underway, the South Cobb Reclamation Facility, and the ongoing stormwater issues in older areas of the county.

Budget

Finally, the slideshow focuses on the budget.  It outlines the reasons for the increase in Cobb’s expenditures, the impact of an millage rate increase of homes with different assessed values, and lists the expenditures the county has, divided into the categories “mandated,” “essential,” and “desired.”
